Does ICAI publish chapter-wise weightage?

No. ICAI publishes section-wise weightage: each paper’s syllabus is grouped into sections, and each section gets a range, such as 10%–15%. Chapter-by-chapter figures come only from counting ICAI’s past papers.

What ICAI publishes

ICAI’s Board of Studies issued the section-wise weightage for the New Scheme on 26 October 2023, applicable to the May 2024 exams and after, until it is changed. It sits inside each paper’s syllabus document:

An example: CA Final Financial Reporting

ICAI groups the FR syllabus into eight sections. Two of them are a single standard, so they can be laid next to the record of the six New Scheme FR papers (May 2024 to May 2026) directly:

ICAI sectionWhat it coversICAI’s rangeAverage actually set
IIInd AS 115, Revenue from Contracts with Customers5%–10%6.6 of 100
VIIInd AS 101, First-time Adoption5%–10%5.0 of 100
ICAI’s ranges from the CA Final syllabus PDF above. Averages: marks per 100 across the six New Scheme FR papers, from the free FR weightage page.

Both sat inside ICAI’s ranges, Ind AS 101 at the bottom of its range. That is the use of the record: ICAI tells you a section’s designed share; the past papers tell you how that share has actually been spent, chapter by chapter, standard by standard.

Why the record matters more for planning

  • A range is wide. “15%–25%” for a section of several standards does not say which standard to study first.
  • A section mixes chapters. The record splits each section into its chapters and, further, into the study-material headings ICAI set questions on.
  • The record is checkable. Every counted question links back to ICAI’s own paper and suggested answer.

Beware of “official chapter-wise weightage”. Some sites present chapter figures as if ICAI published them, or reuse 2023 figures under a newer title. ICAI does not publish chapter-wise figures. Check what any table counts and from which attempts.
